How To Get Beneficial Knowledge
In this age of information technology, having the ability to get beneficial knowledge, from among all the junk and lies, is a must!
There are three types of information:
- Beneficial Knowledge
- Junk Knowledge
- Lies
Having beneficial knowledge have countless benefits and on the other hand junk knowledge just like junk food is unhealthy for our mind and soul.
While believing in conspiracy theories and lies, is harmful and leads to the demise of a man.
Beneficial Knowledge Connects You To The Universe
If the knowledge that you are getting is not leaving you in awe of the universe and making you humble then it is not beneficial knowledge.
For example if you are looking at the pictures of your friends on Instagram and it is leaving you jealous, sad and brewing inside of you all kinds of bad feelings. Junk knowledge fails to bring any value to your life.
But on the other hand if you are studying astronomy and you come across a fact like, there are more stars in the universe than the grains of sand in the whole earth, will increase your faith.
Information Overload
Thanks to the books and internet, we have access to limitless information on our fingertips. One could benefit a lot by developing his ability to sift through the junk information to get only the beneficial information.
While reading books, we should first read the index and jump right into the chapter that we find most interesting. And skim that chapter first to get an outline of what the author wants to say and read only the parts we find the most exciting.
Because most of the things, you already know or are not important for you. If you start reading the boring stuff then you will want to get distracted and do something more fun. In short you will not get the beneficial knowledge if you read the boring stuff!
Easy way to get quality and authentic stuff is to choose paid medium over free. Because when the creator is not bound by advertising revenue, he will not try to water down or change stuff to make it more spicy. For example, most of the successful organizations are not-for-profit or have a big vision and are not set up to make some quick bucks.
Also you should find good sources and channels to subscribe to. Because lot of low quality, garbage content is floating around. Anyone can grab a phone and create a video saying he is an expert in this field, so you have to believe in what he is saying.
You Don't Need New Information
Guess what, you already know a lot of stuff, just take a deep breath, walk outside in fresh air and let your mind to connect different ideas together and come up with new ideas.
Also think about the mistakes you made and failures you faced, there is a lot to learn from them.
You don't need to keep up with your to-watch, to-listen, to-read lists. There is already a lot of stuff inside of you, give it space to grow.
Create a block of time in your day when you will not connect to the internet and keep yourself away from distractions, to make your subconscious diffuse mode thinking to occur.
Beneficial Knowledge Is Easy To Get
If you think that to find the important stuff, you will need to dig deeper and keep scrolling down and down or keep clicking the next page button; then you are completely wrong.
The beneficial knowledge always comes to you with ease. If you are failing to find some piece of fact you know exists, then it means you have no need for it right now. Like when some things are just on the tip of our tounge but we fail to recall it, the right thing to do is leave it and move on, because it is not the right thing to say at the moment.
Set limit to addictive things like Facebook, and don't feel bad about it. Because whatever important things you are suppose to know will come to you in that limited amount of time. No need to waste the whole day scrolling junk information.
One example you see everyday is how Google's algorithm brings the most relevant stuff to us higher up in the search results or recommends us in Google News.
This does not mean you won't need to do hard-work. But there are two types of hard-work, one is where you can see the progress is being made and the other where you can see that you are wasting your time and energy, and no progress is being made.
Keep The Big Picture In Mind
Only when you have a big picture of the topic in mind, you will be able to see when a content creator is hiding or spicing stuff up. Because everyone have a different motive or perspective with which they approach a topic.
To get to the knowledge that will benefit you, you need to create an outline of the topic and try to understand things from what you already know. Only after doing this, start your research.
If someone shares with you something interesting via social media, don't watch it until you have completed an outline about that topic. And know the basics, so you can differentiate the facts from lies.
